River North Real Estate and Neighborhood Information

Get to know River North

Just across the Chicago River from the Loop, River North is an urban neighborhood where you'll find a well-established center for the art community brimming with galleries, production companies, photography studios and interior design businesses, as well as some of Chicago's most famous architecture. For instance, the iconic Wrigley Building anchors the southern tip of River North with its striking, white terra-cotta exterior and ornate, upper-level stone work. A newer addition to the neighborhood, the Trump Hotel & Tower serves as a culinary site as well as the home to some of the most gorgeous condos in the city. Marina City, more aptly known as the Corn Cob Towers, was a pioneering innovation when it was constructed in the 1960s. It combined living space and convenient services into a mini-city contained within the complex a concept regularly incorporated in today's modern developments.

River North Real Estate

You won't find too many single-family homes in River North but if having a loft on the umpteenth floor is your idea of living the high life, this may be the neighborhood for you. Towering skyscrapers and mid-rise apartment buildings are home to most River North residents. Among the newer condominiums and residential developments are classic structures from the late 19th and early 20th centuries that have been rehabbed to meet modern day living standards. Plus, many of the old warehouses that weren't already occupied by artists have been renovated into trendy, upscale lofts.

Two of Chicago's most notable apartment buildings are located in River North on State Street. Marina City (300 N State St, 312-527-4460) is a condominium complex with twin 60-story towers—often referred to as the 'Corncob Towers' for their unusual cylindrical shapes that resemble two stripped ears of corn. Built in the 1960s by Bertrand Goldberg, Marina City was an experimental development at the time because it offered all the amenities of a mini-city under one roof: grocery store, cleaners, bank, restaurants, movie rental and bowling lanes. The buildings' unique look has made them famous in movies, commercials, album covers and more.

New to River North is the highly anticipated luxury condominium, The Ronsley at 676 N. Kingsbury. This classic turn-of-the-century building melds a sophisticated historical ambiance with modern design and amenities. 41 unique residences provide you with the pinnacle of luxury and come in a range of floor plans from 2 bed 2 bath condos to astonishing 4 bed triplex penthouses. Simply put, The Ronsley awards you with the finest attributes of a big city, but in a tailored, boutique package.
