Calling Susie Kanter a real estate agent is akin to calling Babe Ruth a ballplayer. In both cases, the terms are technically accurate, and yet they constitute a gross understatement. Just like the Babe, Susie is not defined by her generic profession, so much as she redefines the standard of excellence for the profession, itself. Sure, she's adept at helping her clients buy and sell homes; but the breadth of her skills far exceeds the confines of what we normally think an agent does. Buying and selling a home is just the culmination of both Susie's tireless vigilance to her client's needs and her rare diversity of expertise in the real estate market, the mechanics of home finance, local resources for home repair and maintenance, and every other factor that informs our decisions about whether, where, and when to purchase or unload a property. Beyond that, Susie distinguishes herself with her intangible strengths as a person. She conducts herself with integrity, flashes a clever wit, and exhibits a genuine desire to understand her clients as people, not just as customers. So it's no surprise that, after working with Susie to buy two homes and sell one, my wife and I have come to call her a friend. Susie's prowess was never more valuable to us than in our most recent purchase of a home, which required complex negotiations and creative strategy to steer the deal through some treacherous turns. There were many moments when it seemed that the transaction along with my composure could crumble, but Susie ushered us to the goal line, always finding a way to stay in the game. Along the way, she provided us with the straight talk and a sympathetic ear we needed to make challenging decisions in a hectic real estate environment. Meanwhile, Susie sold our home in less than 24 hours, fetching two offers over asking price. Enough said.
